Every Tamil month has its own specialties, in that case the 4th month - Aadi month also has some specialties. This month is the birth (Avathara) month of Sri Andal (one among 12 great Alwars of Sri Vaishnavism) a special month for Amman and we can see lots of grand utsavams during this month.
Specialties of Aadi month The start of Dakshinayana punya kaalam is this Aadi month. The Puranams says that this kaalam (time) is the right time of Devars. Also, the heat of sun reduces and the rain starts. Sri Andal was born in Sri Villiputhur during Pooram star in this Aadi month. Sri Aadi tapas utsavam is very special and it is done in a grand manner in Shankaran kovil. Shiva Perumaan showed his presence to Gomathy Amman during this month as Sri Shankara Narayanan, on Aadi Pournami day. During this month only, Ambal performed "Parasakthi Viratham" to marry Shiva Perumaan. Taking bath during Amavasai (or) just even visiting the sea during this Aadi month is so special. Giving thithi during this day is considered as special and it is believed directly reaches them. This month is completely dedicated for Amman and we can see all the Hindu temples of her are glorified during this month. This is because we should have our complete thought and bhakti towards her. So bhakthas, visit any temples of Ambal and ger Her complete blessings.  |
